Hey curl friends! So I recently been focusing on scalp detox and clarifying my hair partly because I’ve been dealing with itchiness, product build-up which has led to my scalp feeling inflamed and sore at times. As a result, I’ve been using Creme of Nature Clay and Charcoal Pre-Poo Mask. I’ve been using the clay mask for several months so what better time to give you my honest opinion. If you are wondering does it work? What exactly is a pre-poo clay mask? Don’t worry I got you covered!
The purpose of this review is to share my experience as well as educate you on the key ingredients so you can make informed choices when choosing the right products for your hair.
What is a Pre-poo Mask
Do I need a pre-shampoo treatment? hmm, yes! It’s an additional step to your wash day routine but the benefits are amazing! Thank me later.
Pre-shampoo treatments helps ease tangles during your washday and cut down on snags and knots. If you are like me and use a ton of products like gels, creams and edge control then a pre-poo will help get rid of the build-up in preparation for shampoo. Creme of Nature Clay Mask has the added benefit of depositing minerals into the hair shaft while prepping the hair for wash day. It’s particularly good for those needing to detox strands with healing charcoal and clay.
What are the key ingredients?
Activated Charcoal – Cleanse impurities, removes the sebum and deep cleanses the pores and removes toxins from the scalp.
Bentonite clay – Draw out toxins, heavy metals, chemicals, and impurities. It helps cleanse and lift impurities from the hair, aiding in conditioning, shine, softness, and definition.
Rhassoul clay- Nourishes hair with essential minerals and vitamins, moisturizing and softening the hair while it cleans. It also improves curl definition.
How to use Creme of Nature Clay and Charcoal Pre-Poo Mask
The instructions say to apply the product on dry hair in sections. However, I would strongly advise to apply on damp hair in 4- 6 depending on length and thickness of hair. Add a plastic cap and leave for 10 min minimum. Watch the video below for a demonstration.
Remove heavy build-up while cleansing, detoxifying and infusing deep moisture with our Pre-Shampoo Detoxifying Clay Mask.

Does it live up to the reputation?
Pros
-
The pre-poo is thick and creamy which makes the application so much easier.
-
A little goes a long way so no need to be heavy-handed, this tub will last you a while.
-
Once I’ve coated my hair with the product it makes detangling that much easier.
-
Does a great job clarifying my hair without it feeling stripped of moisture.
-
Saves you a Ton of time! If you’re not always up for a DIY and mixing bentonite clay with Apple cider vinegar seems a bit of a chore and time consuming then a pre-packaged clay mask like this is your friend.
Cons
-
This is a clay mask my friend and a black one at that. Be prepared to get a mess over your nice white bathtub.
-
It has a fragrance of sweet, woody and musky so things you would find in a men’s perfume. I like the smell but I don’t think its for everyone particularly if you don’t like your hair products heavy with fragrance. Of course this is all just my opinion.
Final Thoughts on the Creme of Nature Clay and Charcoal Pre-Poo Mask
Creme of Nature’s Clay and charcoal Pree-poo hair mask is inspired by all the DIY treatments we see our favourite bloggers and Youtubers creating. The bentonite clay and apple cider DIY mask is one of the most popular online. Again, what I love about this pre-poo is it’s nicely packaged, containing the very best ingredients to detox, defrizz and clarify without the time-consuming aspects.
I use this product intermittently depending on what my hair needs, If I feel like I need a thorough scalp detox then I may add apple cider vinegar as a separate stage or I may decide a good DIY is what my hair needs. overall, the product does a great job removing my product build-up and detangling my 3c-4a textured hair.
